Wojtek Rak’s Portfolio

Hello! My name is Wojtek Rak and this is my portfolio. I’m a programmer focused on games and graphics programming, currently based in Montreal, Canada. You can see some of my project on the right side of this very page.

I’m currently looking for a new full time position.

I’m also actively working on my first full commercial game, SUPER SHAPESHOOTER, which is available on Steam in Early Access.

I hold a BSc in Computer Science (2014–2017) and an MSc in High Performance Graphics and Games Engineering from The University of Leeds (2023–2024).

Between getting my BSc and MSc, I spent six years (2017-2023) working as a full-stack developer making accounting software at a local company (while also developing games in my spare time).

Beyond programming, I also enjoy making music and playing a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments.

Players fight through escalating waves of enemies while making risk-reward decisions around upgrades and movement.

The game is currently in Steam Early Access and has received positive reviews from players so far.

SUPER SHAPESHOOTER will see a 1.0 release in 2026.

Pico-8 is a virtual console with very harsh limitations, simulating a device akin to an NES or the C64.

As a learning exercise in graphics programming, I wrote a real-time 3D software renderer for for it, capable of importing and rendering simple .obj models despite the platform’s constraints.

THE BROKEN TIME MACHINE is a short game developed in less than 48 hours for a game jam. I built it using Godot, learning the engine from scratch during the jam.

Despite the tight time constraints and the game’s very small scope and simple nature, the project was very well received and continues to be my most popular free project on itch.io.

IT BELONGS TO THEM is a game created for the GMTK Game Jam 2020. Players are confined to a space rover traversing an alien planet, using onboard cameras to document alien artifacts.

The project served as my introduction to shader programming, featuring a custom pixelation shader and a Game Boy Color palette swap shader to create its distinctive visual identity.

PACKAGE PANIC: Always On Time is a game created in 48 hours for the 46th Ludum Dare game jam.

The game centers on delivering packages in a small town using a kei truck, where the environment becomes increasingly unsafe with each passing day.

A key feature of the game is its over the top player character animation, achieved by blending ragdoll physics with traditional skeletal animation.

Inspired by puzzlescript.net, I created a simple framework for rapid creation of Sokoban-style games for the PICO-8 virtual console.

The goal of the framework is to leverage the PICO-8 feature set such as the sprite editor and the map editor to allow new PICO-8 users to create Sokoban games without any need for programming knowledge, beyond writing a small amount of simple configuration data.
